The ideal size for string art nails is around 15 mm (½ inch) with a rounded head. Our nails are 15 mm long, with a 2.5 mm head diameter and 1.2 mm shank (Gauge 18)—a perfect fit for most projects. Yes. We’ve tested them on spruce, pine, birch, and various hardwood bases. They stay straight, reliable, and provide a consistent hold. For very hard woods like oak or beech, pre-drilling tiny guide holes can make hammering easier and protect the wood from splitting.
