Cross-Stitch FAQs
Here you’ll find answers about our physical stitchable frames and boxes, as well as our digital STL files and licenses.
?
What are GoodStrings stitchable cross-stitch frames and boxes?
⌄
They are 3D-printed embroidery blanks with a perforated grid built directly into the frame or lid. You stitch your design straight onto the product, so the frame or box becomes part of the finished piece.
?
Do I need fabric, an embroidery hoop, or separate framing?
⌄
No. The stitching surface is built into the frame or box. Once your stitching is finished, your piece is already framed or ready to use as a decorative box.
?
What is included with a physical frame or box?
⌄
Physical listings include the blank stitchable product shown in the listing. Our boxes also include the product-specific insert or inside clip described on the listing. Thread, needles, embroidery patterns, stands, and other accessories are not included unless the product page specifically says otherwise.
?
What fabric count is the grid similar to?
⌄
Most of our current stitchable grids have spacing similar to Aida 11, or approximately 11 stitches per inch. Please check the individual product description for the exact grid dimensions and stitch count, as these vary between designs and sizes.
?
What needle and thread should I use?
⌄
For many of our frames, we recommend a size 26 needle and 3–4 strands of standard embroidery floss. The best choice can depend on the frame, pattern, and effect you want, so always check the recommendations on the individual product page.
?
Can I use my own cross-stitch pattern?
⌄
Yes. Choose a pattern that fits within the stitch count shown on the product page. You can also adapt small cross-stitch or simple hand-embroidery designs to suit the available grid.
?
How do I finish the back of my stitching?
⌄
Secure your thread ends as you normally would while stitching. Our stitchable boxes include an inside clip or insert that covers the back of the stitched lid for a clean finish. Frame construction varies, so please check the photos and details on the individual listing.
?
What are the physical frames and boxes made from?
⌄
Our current stitchable frames and boxes are 3D printed in PLA in our home studio. Because each piece is 3D printed, small layer lines and slight variations are a natural part of how the product is made.
?
What is the difference between a physical product and an STL download?
⌄
A physical product is printed by us and shipped to you. An STL listing is a digital download for customers who want to print the design on their own 3D printer. No physical item is shipped when you purchase a digital file.
?
What do I receive with a digital STL purchase?
⌄
Our current STL listings generally include an STL file, a 3MF file prepared for Bambu Studio, a quick-start or “Read Me First” PDF, tested print-setting guidance, and the applicable license. Please check the individual listing because the included files may vary by design.
?
What printer settings have the STL files been tested with?
⌄
Our current files have been tested with PLA, a 0.4 mm nozzle, and a 0.2 mm layer height on the printers named in each listing. Many include a pre-configured 3MF file for Bambu Studio. Results can vary between printers, materials, and slicers, so use the product’s included settings as your starting point.
?
Can I resize the STL file?
⌄
We do not recommend resizing unless the listing specifically says it is suitable. Resizing changes the entire grid: it does not add stitches, and the hole spacing may no longer match the intended Aida-like count or work comfortably with the recommended needle and floss.
?
What is the difference between the personal-use and commercial licenses?
⌄
Personal-use files may be printed for yourself or as personal gifts, but you may not sell the printed products or share the digital files. Commercial-license files allow limited selling under the terms shown on the product page and in the included license. Our current commercial license allows up to 150 completed products from the design during a 12-month term, with restrictions on online blank sales, wholesale, and file sharing. Please read the full Personal Use License or Commercial License before purchasing.
?
Are the stitched patterns shown in the product photos included?
⌄
No, unless a listing explicitly states otherwise. The stitched designs in our photographs are examples showing what can be made with the frame or box. Pattern credits are included in the relevant product descriptions.
?

I bought a pattern but don't know how to download it?
🧵 Once you've completed your purchase, we'll send you an email with a link to download your digital product. Just click the link to go to the download page. You might need to log into your account first. Then, simply click the download button and save the file to your device. If you don’t see the email, check your spam or junk folder, or log into your account on our website to find your download. I found a pattern/kit/finished sign in your shop...can I get a pattern/kit/finished sign in the same design?
🧵 In most cases - YES. We come up with a design and turn it into a pattern, DIY kit and digital pattern and there are only a few exceptions for larger signs where kits and patterns are not available. It can also happen that I have forgotten to add something to our shop so please don't hesitate and reach out to me via contact form down below or write to renate@goodstringshop.com.
What is the difference between Full kit, Basic kit and Pre-nailed kit?
🧵 Full kit has hammer and pliers included in the kit box. Get it if you don't have small hammer and pliers at home or you are getting this kit as a gift and don't know if the person who will get the gift has the tools.
🧵 Basic kit does not have tools included. It is an awesome option for you if you have the small tools at home.
🧵 Pre-nailed kit. It is for someone who does not want to hammer and only do the string part of string art. So no tools are included but all of the nails are neatly hammered in the wood base for you to enjoy the stringing action.
Custom and personalized orders?
🧵 Yes, we do take them. Please reach out to me via contact form down below or drop us a line to renate@goodstringsshop.com.
Custom orders have a bit higher rate than the prices you see at our shop (but nothing extreme) due to the fact that the pattern needs to be custom created and there is a discussion with the client about the colors, sizes and other meaningful details.
Wholesale availability or bulk orders?
🧵 Yes, we offer wholesale and bulk orders. Please reach out via contact form down below or write to renate@goodstringsshop.com.
I want my pattern/kit/sign in a different size! Is it possible?
🧵 For most of the designs, sizes can be adjusted. Almost everything can be made bigger, but not everything can be made smaller. This is applicable for our signs, DIY decors, and patterns.
Gift wrapping - do you offer it?
🧵 We don't offer gift wrapping but we do take care of how we package our products we send to clients so I would say that no gift wrap is needed :)
